Garden Academy and American Corner Ikeja Partner to Empower 150+ Tech Enthusiasts in Transformative Product Design Mini Boot Camp

A groundbreaking collaboration between American Corner Ikeja and Garden Academy kicked off on Monday, May 22nd, 2023, marking the commencement of a five-day physical product design mini boot camp at Vibranium Valley. The ambitious initiative, aimed at harnessing technology to reshape Africa and cultivate globally competitive tech talents, drew immense attention from the public.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Stephanie Adesanya, Director of American Corner Ikeja, and Ibitayo Ogunbanwo, General Manager and Principal of Garden Academy. Participants delved into the core theme of “design thinking” throughout the intensive training, which emphasized the five essential stages of design: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Leading the sessions were industry experts, Adebayo Chike and Mide Ajilore, who stressed the significance of each design stage and its impact on the outcome.

According to Adebayo Chike, “Product design goes beyond creating visually appealing designs on tools like Figma. It involves generating ideas, meticulous planning, and thoughtful processes before even approaching a design interface. Product design is more than just pushing pixels; it’s about solving users’ needs.”

Highlighting the importance of color in design, Mide Ajilore expressed, “Colours play a vital role in design. The choice of colours can make or break a design. It’s essential to use complementary colours that resonate with the target audience.”

The mini boot camp witnessed an impressive turnout, with participants fully engaged and immersed in the interactive and hands-on sessions conducted by the expert facilitators. The training provided a comprehensive introduction to the intricacies of product design, equipping attendees with valuable skills and knowledge.
